I was talking to a monk and they were building up crafting skills for release of vel. What will you need to craft? Is that just for the Regen/Dmg Shield ring? Or something else? I don't remember having to do any crafting and I think i had the 8th ring.

Monks and any other melee class will want to have their tailoring and smithing around 50 for the Coldain Ring quest.

Lodizal drops in Iceclad plus the quest items associated with it, i.e. Lodizal Shell Shield http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4061 and Eyepatch of Plunder http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4431

Lodizal will be the cause of much strife as Guild A will end up owning it and Guilds B to Z will endlessly cry about that fact.

moral of the story: Hide because all the poopsockers gunna make it shit for you?

Is that really i should pull out of this thread?

other things that were helpfully noted:
FBSS and other haste items going to go down in price because of SCHW, and maybe plunder patch?
Ry'gorr gear is good and drops frequently (especially earring).
+hp rings won't be worth as much/don't buy them right now because the velious era ones are better.
Look into tailoring/brewing for coldain ring quests

damn with 22% haste on the handwraps the Sash of Dragonborn is gonna go down the tubes

the FBSS due to the ease of access should still have decent value and still most likely be the initial haste item for noobs starting out

What are the differences between the three major factions?

What content will be limited if I choose one over the other?

What items will I miss out on if I don't want to regrind faction to access gear from the different quest givers?

Is the choice of which faction different for different classes?

Anyone can be on any faction. It just takes faction grinding or doing turn in quests to raise it.

Everyone starts out KOS to Claws of Veeshan (Skyshrine)
Everyone, but Rallos Zek warriors, start out KOS to Kromriff/zek (Kael). (Giants have two related factions, one fights the dwarves the other fights the dragons)
Everyone starts out non-kos to Coldain (Thurgadin).

Each faction has its own set of quest armor. Thurg has the least amount of stats. Kael is focused more on HP/AC. Skyshrine armor focuses on Mana/Resists. You can even forgo the quests and get comparable Thurgadin armor from Plane of Growth raids.

The consensus usually goes with Skyshrine dragon quest armor as being the best over all, but maintaining a dragon faction guild cuts a lot of content out if you don't have alts to take the faction hits or do significant giant killing to fix it.

If you don't care about quest armor or already have what you want, then faction just means safer travel.
