Hey

First of all, thanks alot for trying to put in pvp at all, some of us played on PVP servers on live, so that was our classic experience. This is great.

Things ive read in this thread i agree on:

"Suicide; people suiciding for 100% mana/health, maybe on death there may be a 30s timer before respawn? Yes I used this to my full advantage."

You also have to gauge stuff about death you shouldnt, like if i kill this guy, will he spawn back at zone full health and stop my team from stealing flag? Granted he will spawn at some point but death should be more of a penalty than right now.

"level difference and gear"

This is one thing that was harsh and possibly not a good thing at all, is that someone alot higher than you is basically unkillable in EQ. People bitch about WoW but thats one thing they got right, killing a 52 hunter who got cocky and took a few people at once with my 27 priest was something that hooked me to WoW pvp on the spot. Not sure what you can do to fix that, or at least minimize it, if there is a will/time for it.

"Dungeon like zones"

Last friday someone suggested this in-game to play on smaller maps when pop is lower. Would also be nice to not be playing the same map all the time. Im not sure how hard that chore is though, and how much time you devs have to devote to it vs. dealing with all the other stuff.

All that work load brings me to my next point:

-------------------------

Heres my suggestion for bringing EQ classic pvp to those who want it, while leaving others who dont to not do it:

Make reds be able to group with blues (im assuming they cant, just like on live, which is the main reason why no one went red).

WoW battlegrounds killed wow pvp for me. Because it restricts the pvp to 3 zones. There is like 20 zones, with a gigantor amount of ambush spots, hiding spots and buildings etc etc, and you are funneling players into only 3 zones [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] (Im not bitching about the CTF just to be clear, just making a point about how fun server-wide pvp is, i totally understand pvp on p99 is in beta form and im glad it is available, at all)

Its the same in EQ. pvping in Gfay on platforms was just epic, same went for crushbone, runnyeye, WC, all the zones were available to pvp in. Bonus points? You dont have to code anything beside reds being able to group with blues. The only thing that blues would have to decide is do we want the trouble of having a red in group? Granted no would be the answer alot of times but it would help kick off server-wide pvp i think, with what seems to be a smallish load of work for you devs and at the same time pve players can stick to pve. Win-win.

Another way of doing this would be to let guilds war dec each other. I can totally see entire alt guilds devoted to pvping. Leveling a character while you have to watch your back all the time is something you dont get from put-put-ing it on PVE, its a constant rush of adrenaline to be walking around, watching the /who channel to see if your arch-enemy doesnt pop in zone.

Im not sure what the decision would be lvl wise if you would try to get this to work, but on the vallon emu its 8 lvls, and it seems a reasonable decision to me, on Rallos it was 4 and sometimes it felt a bit restricted.

We're trying to do something fun for once. Do you play this game just so you can have classic everquest, or do you play it to have fun?
That's what a video game is about; having fun with it. If you have to debate whether it was classic or not, that just ruins the whole point of having fun. In 2001, we had fun with the game. This is fun for the people who choose to play it. Are you going to limit yourself from having fun playing a PVP CTF game *just* because it's ruining your immersion? Because let's be honest, that's completely and utterly unreasonable.
Are you saying that classic EQ is not fun? If not, then why even bother with the server? That's why the vast majority of your players are on your server, not for custom rules pvp content they can get on any number of other servers out there.

Having said that, it is you guys' server to do with as you see fit,and I'm not about to argue with it. There just seems to be a lot of time, development and attention going into a pvp system that never existed on the game you're advertising you emulate.

Not so much. The way that is set up, I start it, and then leave it to go. I come back later and read feedback. It took a little time to initially create, but that was actually fun. The perl used for the event can be used for other things. *cough* test of tactics.

You have gained nor lost anything here. This is something the developers put together to help both you and us. We will have best of the best tournaments.. and I'd like them to actually work.

I don't see people lining up to duel or use the broken arenas.

It really sucks when development effort is "put down" in any way though, I'll tell you that.

I'm not putting it down. I'd just rather see it go towards emulating Everquest.

But if it has no bearing towards gameplay or the future of the project, then I'll shut up about it.

So true ... you people should realy start to appreciate the hard work the devs put in here, since all that whining and complaining about everything is just eating away at the devs ... luckily they know its just a handfull of whiners, and the rest of us stands behind them to back them up!

You've done plenty of whining, yourself.

And I wasn't putting them down. I simply asked a question.
