Well that argument does partially explain why they started developing as a socialist state. They had a strong working class identity of people exactly like them.

But if your talking like, single payer healthcare and free/cheap college. You can see Russia and all kinds of other countries with a bunch of sectarian violence pull it off.

Russian healthcare sucks. But making it 100% private...basically zero evidence that would help. There's also not a lot of evidence that it sucks because it is single payer. It sucks because Russia is doing it.

And we suck when doing healthcare too. We have good 1st world healthcare here -- so that's not a problem. The problem is not everyone has access to it, and we are paying out the ass for it on a macro level.

Well there's problems we can solve with government policy. And then their people slipping into a nihilistic spiritual crisis that we can't really pass a program and throw money at to fix. A lot of these sad fucks are already rich and in therapy.

The Christian right kind of took advantage of the spiritual rot in America. Getting people 100% committed to their narrow understanding of the bible and western values was a lot more of the goal than invading Iraq. But that's the problem with these political movements; they are easy to infiltrate with an actual political agenda.

Some on the left have been trying some kind of stupid version of this. They get all new agey and start talking like were on a Buddhist retreat -- so we can what? Repeal the Salt tax and then raise the corporate rate a little?

Luckily its not as powerful of an institution as the super churches down south and in the midwest were.
