Who the fuck is rioting? The norm for the black community when horrible violations of basic human rights are hurled at them is to not riot. Just because you have some second-hand reference to "scary black people" being heard doesn't make it something to expect. My old roommate who was from China once asked me about Florida because several international students noticed it too. Does the oppressive humidity result in higher cases of water on the brain? There's just pockets of permanent poverty spread out all over because this state:

A. developed extremely quickly
B. was part of the deep south
C. both white and black people have tommytowns here so its not a particularly racial issue
D. there is/was a lot of exploitation of illegal immigrants, but the situation is improving a lot compared to 15 years ago

The above apply to only very specific places. There are some really nice places to live in this state. Though unemployment is unbearable unless you are on welfare here or fill a specific niche in customer service or medicine IMO. Or live in a major metropolitan area. Jacksonville, Tallahasee, Orlando, Tampa, Miami

A lot of the people in north/centeral Florida seem to have some perception of Miami being a hispanic/cuban mafia city. But I haven't gone myself to see whats up. I'm sure a white person could do just fine there if they could learn to STFU and fall in line with the rest of the proles.

Perhaps part of it is the bible belter mentality, but other places a long the bible belt aren't as backwards as some of the places here. In some ways its good because it makes the state more heterogeneous. In other ways its bad, because coming out of poverty is hard for even the smartest and most motivated.

If Florida had stayed a seperate country from mainland U.S. for well maybe 150+ more extra years it would have perhaps done better despite all the whiny human rights abuses people rage on about in 3rd world places. Because its economy would have had time to equalize with the rest of the world. The biggest industry here was agriculture and still is, with tourism and hospitals coming in 2cnd. The most lucrative agriculture is horse breeding which is not a market that is easy to break into without millions$$

South America is now out competing our agricultural ability. Big oil is an issue and was run by overseas companies that didn't put anything back into Florida anyway except for a measly 0.001% populations wage.

There was a brief influx in the tech industry in the 90's but the .com bubble burst really hampered and stagnated its development. My bro still works in the industry and most of his employers don't live/work in the state. All the big datacenter projects and shit are going out west to Utah's new area 52 *cough*
