Can't click the link from this stupid firewall, what EMU was sued for 88 million? Molten is arguably the biggest emu available and it's running strong as hell with custom programming

wouldn't be too hard to write a script that monitors X items being traded imo... wutevs.

seems they're against RMT, but don't feel like putting the time in to create the tools needed to stop it.

I love how in half the threads in the past week you have threatened to run to Sony if you don't get your way xD

you remind me of my little brother when we were 6 heh.

But lets look at this from a pure business standpoint.

Is the cost of a lawsuit (which they may or may not win) greater than any new customers they would receive from shutting down P99.

I would lean toward no.

Besides its not like P99 is actively taking customers from SoE... its mostly people tired of Live and looking for something new that find this. Doubt many people here would migrate back to Live.

It's not about right or wrong, or the law. It's about what makes the most money for SoE.

It's the same reason large companies settle sexual harassment suits or wrongful termination suits even if they have a rock solid win.

Bad publicity = Less money in the bank.

You know what? As far as all this goes?

People lie, tax audits don't.

It doesn't matter

bottom line to sony... will they make money by shutting down P99.. answer is no.

It's also the reason they don't go after RMT websites on Live... nothing in it for them.

Sure they will ban somebody if they get caught... but they don't go after the organization that enables the RMT heh.

Companies are instruments to make money. They won't do something unless they think it affects their bottom line in a positive way.

A not for profit server (with no marketing and small population) with the same issue as a for profit server is small fries to sony.

For a rich person... it would be like tossing a quarter to a kid to get a piece of candy.

There are plenty of examples of epic RMT sales in mmo's out there.. a short google search can pop up a few.

It isn't they money they'd make back in subs.

Where do you think $88.5 million came from in the previous case?

$85.5M in statutory damages, $3M in inappropriate profits, and $63,600 in attorney fees
88 mil sorry.

Looks like the cost against Sony would be.... 0 if they won?

Shall we stop all this? It's obvious the community needs to take a stand against RMT. It is very easy to do away with it. Personally I'd shut this shit down to protect the project until the rats turn in the other rats.

So you think rogean or nilbog have deep pockets?

It's not like they can sue the data center that hosts them..

Bottom line... SoE would not lose money
