I think this may be the key, it's only ever happened to me whilst kiting. In all the hours I've spent running from place to place, grouping and raiding I've never known it to happen. Basically it happens at the worst possible time [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
While it does seem like the majority of the times (maybe 80%) this has happened to me have come while I was kiting something... this could just be because I spend a crapload of my time ingame kiting.

I HAVE had it happen when I was not kiting or engaged in combat, just not as frequently.

It happened twice last night on my enchanter. The first time my animation and I were engaged with 2 mobs. When I returned, I had fortunately survived. The second time it happened when I was looting.

I had a similar thing happen to me playing SimCity 4 last summer. I'd be playing, and the game would just crash. So I don't think this is exclusive to EQ.

The only REAL fix for this I've found.... is to boot my computer into Windows XP instead of Windows 7 before playing P1999 EQ.

If I play in Windows 7 x64 (No SP1 installed) I get random CTD. Could happen twice in one day, might only happen once in two weeks... but it will eventually happen. In XP, I've never crashed to desktop.

Both OS are using the same Everquest folder to play the game.

This used to happen to me a lot. Around a year ago, I'd crash several times a day which contributed to my quitting for awhile. I just came back a month or so ago and have put in several days /played without a single crash until this morning. Soloing the AC room in upper guk, crashed to desktop with no warning, came back dead.

When I started playing again I thought there must have been a fix on the server side because I wasn't crashing any more. Still using the same computer as a year ago, so I don't know why I went so long without crashes and then got one again just now.

This happens to me sporadically maybe once every 4 hours of playing. No error or anything. Just instantly to desktop.

Also, on weekends when the server population is > 400 I lockup while zoning about 1/4 of the time, and have to try about 10 times sometimes in order to log in (various errors at different points)

Never crashed like that;

Windows 7 x64
E8400 core2 cpu @ 3.00 ghz
GeForce 460gtx
4gb ddr2

Titanium.

I run WinEQ2 and have eqgame.exe to run in Win XP SP2 compability mode as administrator. I also installed the cpu fix and map fix from the Duxa package.

Hope this helps.
