Paradox's major titles... Europa Universalis III/IV, Hearts of Iron II-IV, Victoria II, Stellaris, Crusader Kings II. Between all these titles my playtime probably rivals MMO's.

They're all the very similar quality really, characterized by elaborate, complex mechanics. HoI III/IV's downfall is the bad AI and clunky combat, so if that's what you didn't like you might like other pdox. But if you didn't like the pacing, complexity, systems or historical aspects you may not like other titles.

Victoria II is a classic. Older and not as shiny as some of the newer titles but it's a political and economic simulator foremost. You start in 1838 (coronation of Queen Victoria) and guide a country though the end of absolutism, through the Springtime of Nations and industrial revolution, through WWI to the rise of socialism and fascism. You get to manage the level of woke your populace has and depending on how woke they are you get certain policies like laissez faire, state capitalism, planned economy, etc. So you can pit your dream fascist state against all the limp dicked democracies.

Plus you get to brutalize Africa and exploit its resources, but that can be said for all paradox titles.

CK2 is good if you're into incest and game of thrones type intrigues, EU4 is addictive, stellaris if you're into space.

Arcanum.

The game is interesting for its take on a fantasy world at the start of an industrial revolution. Fantasy races are mixing in society, racism and intolerance. For example, if you play a magic heavy build they put you at the back of the train because it might cause the engine to explode. Some tech heavy builds are not welcome in high magic places. It was one of Troika Games but launched with a lot of bugs. The community has fixed most of it. Numerous character builds. Rated #4 CRPG by the Codex.

Troika - Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil and Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

90's CRPGs. Black Isle Studio. Story heavy, rated as "story fag" level on the RPGCodex. Interesting world. Rated #1 CRPG by the Codex.

Both still look good. Classic computer games. Computer interface. Before the Xbox was launched. No mass market success or appeal.
There were no roadside billboards for either game. Computers were always niche.

they both look super fun but like you said planescape is more of a story based game

Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar

A game released awhile back but was made with an old engine. If you change a few things in the UI it reminds me of classic EQ, both are CRPG's. For sale at the usual places.

Planescape: Torment is one of my favorites. Good storyline, gameplay still holds up to this day. In fact, it's been a few years so I'm due for a replay.

While not at the top of the list of favorites, one standout yet to be mentioned is Nox, specifically the online multiplayer mode. It was a good option whenever the EQ servers were down.

I picked up Grimoire awhile back because it's supposed to be a lot like Wizardry 7. I'm super lazy with new games, but it's probably about time to try it out.
