Default Randomly freezing

After playing for the past few days, I remembered why I stopped playing 2.5 yrs ago. My machine randomly freezes up while playing.

It was happening every 15 minutes in OT and less so in the old world. I freeze while moving around, not while zoning.

I DL'd and starting running in WinEQ and that helped some. I did the fix listed in the sticky that helped people crashing while zoning and I think that helped some too.

I can now play in the old world for about 2 to 3 hours before freezing. I have to completely hard boot my machine when it happens.

2.5 yrs ago, before I quit back then, I updated all my drivers. With a 6 year old machine, I'm not really interested in doing that again since it didn't work back then either.

Curiously, this happened to me on live too, exactly the same way, back in 2000. After months of screwing with my machine unsuccessfully, I ended up having to get a new machine in order to keep playing. (This is a different machine)

Specs, I really don't want to give bad info. I think there's a command you can run to see your specs so if someone would post that please I'll check it and paste what's on my box then. Again, it's a 6 year old machine and running XP, but I don't really remember what's in it.

Thanx in advance,

Dok

Video card overheating?

Hit Start, Run, and enter dxdiag. On the display tab tell me what video card you have.

^^ what lyra said. Also let us know your processor/bios. Info for that should be in Dxdiag under the 'system' tab.

When I go to Nvidia's website and put in my card and OS, this is what driver is given, but it's for a newer card. Think I should DL it?

One more thing I'll add, is that this system played just fine for several months on VZTZ and P99 for about a year before this just started happening randomly and if I remember right, it was after a patch, just like what happened on live.

have you tried reinstalling eq?

If the driver you linked is the one NVidia recommended you use when you put your card name into their site, then I would probably DL it.

If that doesn't fix it there's some settings we can try to mess with to get things running better.
