Being Appalachian is badass AF. I never realized it until I traveled around the country and found out how domesticated most people are.

When Hurricane Michael happened they sent all of us down to Florida for storm recovery. The FEMA camp we lived in had a census, and 99% of the workers were from Appalachia because we're some of the only people in the entire country who regularly have to do this type of work due to the power-lines running through the mountains. Never realized how rare my profession was until then.
