Cool <KWSN> Velious Beta Setup Guide (Keep your UI,friends list, and macros!)

Just a simple little guide for those who haven't dug around in their EQ folder but don't wanna set up a new UI for Velious Beta!

O man, I sure do feel like playing Velious and helping the GMs out!

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Let me just /beta and I can try it out! *reads fine print* /beta. Woo that was fast! Now to login!

Sometimes its hard to remember which letter I set as my password, but I persevere!

Velious is here!

Omg!! What is this UI? Gross!!

I have the technology, I can fix this.

Step 1: Find your EQ folder, most people's will be somewhere around C > Program Files (x86) > Sony > Everquest

Mine however is directly in my C drive to make things easy for me.

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Now go into the folder and look for your .ini files.

"Whoa whoa whoa man, I never heard of no ini file, what even is that?! I didn't sign up for a hacker's convention, I don't wanna go to jail I have so much to life for!"

"Don't worry, they open just like a text file, in notepad and contain settings for how the game will load, easy! All you have to do is make sure the right .ini file is in the right place and wabam! Friend's list, settings, macros, all copied over!"

Let's get started! First, find the UI_YourCharName_project1999 files.

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

See that UI_Useful_P1999beta? That's the perpetrator! Delete him! Keep in mind, it won't exist unless you've logged in once, if you copy your UI (we haven't gotten to that yet) BEFORE logging in, your UI will be set up automatically.

The ONLY thing you need to do to get your UI working is:

COPY FILE: "UI_Useful_project1999.ini" - it will appear as "UI_Useful_project1999 - Copy,ini"

DELETE FILE: "UI_Useful_P1999Beta.ini"

RENAME FILE: "UI_Useful_project1999 - Copy,ini" to "UI_Useful_P1999Beta.ini"

and bam! You got your UI copied over! No additional setup required!

What about macros, hotkeys, and friend's list! After all some of my buds might be on. Good point!

Its very similar! The file below contains your friend list, macros, and hotkeys.

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

You can even double click it and check out your friend's list, be careful not to make any unintended changes!

To get this copied over simply follow the same procedure.

COPY FILE: "Useful_project1999.ini" -- It will appear as "Useful_project1999 - Copy.ini"

DELETE FILE: "Useful_P1999Beta.ini"

RENAME FILE: "Useful_project1999 - Copy.ini" to "Useful_P1999Beta.ini"

All set!

This whole guide might seem silly to you, but we all come from different tech levels. Never explain anything more complex than if you were discussing it with an intelligent 8 year old, keep it simple!

Yay Velious! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Thanks for the guide.

Oddly enough, I don't have any UI_xx_xx files in my P99 directory, but they must be somewhere because my UI doesn't reset every time I play.

Any ideas? Do I need to run EQ as administrator or something?

Thanks

EDIT: Found them by clicking "Compatibility Files" on my Explorer toolbar.

I know I'm bringing up an old thread, but I'm with Lightloch here -- My files are in a totally different directory altogether.

Now, being that I'm rather anal retentive about the placement of my game files, is there a way I can move them to my Sony>EverQuest folder and not make a huge mess of things?

Thanks!
