Ranger - Convince me otherwise
This post is regarding the starting stats of a Ranger, as well as race.
I took a look at the spells that are given to the Ranger class: str buff, ac/hp buffs, infra vision, ultra vision, etc. I also looked at the skills available to the class, specifically: hide, sneak, forage. Furthermore the only difference between Tunare and Karana that I found was the benefit of the Helm of the Tracker via Tunare. My desire is to start in Qeynos, as I never played a character there on live, and I wish to fully utilize the spells available to me. I find that otherwise, I should instead play a warrior, rogue, or monk. With these considerations, I have decided that a Human Ranger with +10DEX / +10WIS would be ideal. It seems that agility is wasted, and the skill benefits of Wood Elves are moot due to Rangers acquiring the same skills. Humans start with higher STR than Half Elves, and have more base wisdom. Yes, they have shit vision, but I will use a Fire Beetle Eye/torch/greater light stone until I get Infravision / Ultravision. Am I missing anything? tl;dr : Human / Ranger / +10DEX +10WIS for more procs/bows/spellcasting.

Get a half elf.
When you die and try to run back to your coprse.. you will be loolled at a lot, and curse your choice.

Don't play a half elf. I can't find the picture, but their Velious plate helm graphic is very very bad. The human one is among the best.

Human is good, but I would just dump your starting points into stamina, personally. The mana returns on 10 wisdom are next to nothing, and higher dexterity sounds sexy but is really not very sexy. You know what is sexy? Eye-patches. You know what to do.

I am using the Luclin graphics but most admit that some of the oldschool helm models are way cooler, although the rest of the armor looks too blocky for my taste.

I never took the helmet graphic into account, but it's not enough to sway my choice.
As far as the dex/wis comment, I had heard that adding STA instead doesn't add much for hit points. Does anyone know of a chart that shows 1dex=what? and 1wis=xmana, or 1sta=xhp? Thanks all for your input!

Ypu get roughly 4hp or so per stam at 60... But I don't know if there is a soft cap at which it's worth even less. I like your idea of dex or wis, but I think you'll find with normal raid gear and shaman buffs str and dex will cap but stam and wis won't come close. I would go all 20 in wis. More heals is always a good thing. At higher Lvl you can do some fun stuff with a combo of fungi, chloro, greater heals, slow on your weapon, a quick cast nuke here and there, and some bow kiting/root rotting before engage. Mana is always a good thing.
