Default Ogres can wear medium armor

I don't think they are supposed to be able to.

http://wiki.project1999.com/Mesh_Armor_Set
"Mesh Armor drops mainly in Upper Guk and is a slight upgrade to the Cloth Armor Set for all but pure casters. They have the same AC as the Raw-Hide Armor Set but weigh less and are one-size-fits-all. A full set gives 46 AC and weighs 3.0 stones."

Do you have any evidence that shows it was not for all races in classic? Every piece appears to be for all.

Mesh Leggings weren't saved on archive.org for Everlore, but Mesh Mask was and it's all race usable (except iksar, but I think this is because the item was never updated after Kunark was released).

First comment on the item is October 1999.

This thread seems based upon a misconception. Mesh armor isn't medium in the same sense as medium size banded or bronze armor. The "medium" in that item description box pictured above is the item size for container purposes--meaning what bags you can place the item inside--and not for race/equipping purposes. Large/Medium/Small sizes for the purpose of equipping are typically in the item name (ie, Banded Mail versus Large Banded Mail) and does not have to be the same as the container size. Sometimes this gets confusing. For example, Banded Mail, Small Banded Mail, and Large Banded Mail are all flagged medium for storage purposes.
