Default Are you interested in interest rates?

Banks call it an Interest Rate. Strangely, I have no interest in it at all.

Interest rates on Student Loans serve what purpose exactly?
Hint: I know the answer I'm just asking a question.

Banks are like our societies legal mafia. Most people keep borrowing even though they know they're getting fucked.

I make it a point to try and avoid them.
Sometimes you're in a situation where you kinda gotta turn to them
For most people this is at the very least a mortgage.
On the topic of interests rates, I do find it's strange how we call ourselves a free market and yet
interest rate manipulation sure seems like it's an underhanded way to control it. I know that's by design of course. To fight inflation! Eventually though the game catches up to us.

If you had borrowed $10 in 1979 you'd owe much much more than $10 today assuming you made no payments.

It took the United States until 1835 to pay off our Revolutionary War debt. And it was an extreme act of recklessness to do it at that point.

Let it ride.

Student loans have very high default rates, even with what you call high rates, they are subsidized.

No. And I think they are stupid and should be illegal for anyone to charge interest.
