Rogues always need STR for more damage, that and ATK. Resists and HP should only be a concern when you start dealing with mobs that AOE. A tank should be taking the brunt of the damage.

Serrated bone dirk is ok but in classic without a hybrid tank casting agro or a warrior with dex+proc weapons proc agroing. You may steal agro and get hurt or killed.
A cheap but less damage solution is often https://wiki.project1999.com/Dragoon_Dirk
In classic you'll want to save up for one of these https://wiki.project1999.com/Polished_Steel_Dirk
it has no proc.

Thanks for that advice. I will look for both and plan on getting the Dragoon first as I see it cheap sometimes. The other seems to be outside my range now. Long term is the Polished better than the +str +hp harpoon I see sometimes?

What I've seen is people using the polished in main hand and harpoon in off hand. before you're able to raid the planes you'll want both. at least in my opinion.

Note that backstab damage is calculated with your main hand weapon damage. So they could be weapon swapping harpoon into mainhand then hitting backstab to achieve a higher damage output. Then swapping it back for faster polished swing speed.

*facepalm* highest damage piercer in mainland. Unless you’re crazy efficient at swapping weapons you’ll lose dps.

You're willing to bet that a 9/31 is better dps than a 8/23 without using the swap trick?

I apologize for the newbie question but as a caster the concept of weapon DPS is not one I have ever dealt with. I know higher damage is better but I know delay comes into play. I am guessing the same damage the lower delay is better but I am sure there is some formula used to compare two weapons with two different damages and two different delays. Can you tell me what thst might be?

I can't claim to be a melee grandmaster.
Ratio is a factor
9/31 = 0.29
8/23 = 0.34

I think people say to put your best ratio in your offhand. But that's advice I hear from kunark and velious era. I'm not certain how that applies to Classic pre-planes era EQ.
Maybe someone can answer this question more in depth [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

For someone absolutely new to melee I wouldn’t be trying to push weapon swapping.

I'll concede to you on this point. It is a skill, much like monk weapon swapping in a way.

@OP for the sake of simplicity highest damage pierce weapon in main hand for those big juicy backstab numbers. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
