Holgresh Elder Beads 3.0

I believe the last 2 Elder Beads threads didn't have a lot of information and had some stuff wrong. Mainly the date they were removed. I added another quote about drop rate as well.

Date it was pulled: Nilbog posted it would be pulled 5/01, 5 months into Velious.

It should instead be mid July, 7/01, 7 months into Velious.

If you follow that link it's the general forums and there are 4-5 topics about Elder Beads posted in 7/20/01. This is the first mention of the beads being pulled. Topics with names like:

"I've heard Holgresh Elder Beads don't drop anymore"
"Are Holgresh Elder Beads going to be nerfed?"
"If Holgresh Elder Beads dropped in WL..."

Now sadly none of these threads can be opened, but I think it's a clear sign that either mid-late July it was announced or patched that Elder Beads would stop dropping.

Any GNecros out there who can confirm that the stalking probes can be used in the same way as the Holgresh beads? I hope so, I'd like a reason to tinker again. Around 20p to make seems a better deal than hours of camping. Oh, and where do they fit and do they stack?

Basically a guide to farming them. Of course they still dropped after 5/01.

It is of course the Elders you are after for the Elder Beads. Any Holgresh can also drop a Strong Stick (or something like that) for the quest for the right click DD braclet. Also, the +20STR gloves (No Drop, Warrior only) seem to be a common drop off a Holgresh Raider. The raiders can be found in the cave and wandering outside, but the Elders only seem to spawn in the cave.

I'll add my 2 cents here. I got my Elder Beads about a month and a half or so back, I was 51 at the time. Of course the Holgresh are in a cave in WL (some wander outside but nowhere near enough to think youll get a rare drop of Elder Beads) There are Elementalists, no pet. Conjurors w/pet, and Elders w/pets. The Elders are still blue to 51 if I remember right. Theres also a grand vizer that can spawn in the center spot in the cave (he was bugged the whole week I was there, so nothing ever spawned in the center spot, he would pop in, spin, and poof. till they did the next patch) Once in the cave hallway bring up a pet about halfway in, not to close to the entrance because the Holgresh can go under the world and hit you if you try to run them too far down the hall. Also dont let them 'run' when low on hp as they will run into the walls and you cant loot them. Also part 2, Dont let them gate (use ST) they will try to gate back into the cave, which could be very bad, depends on how many more come back with them :P. Overall fighting these guys is a pain in ass on all fronts money and nusance. 1. they suck money because your going thru at least one damage shield component each fight( ie:jasper, peridot etc). 2. They are all casters,most w/pets.. just a major pain. So if your not there for the quest/fur/sticks or beads its not really worth your time. The cave itself has about 10 Holgrash around it (plus the center spot, which if the Vizer is up he might come with any pull you make), pretty easy to pull single otherwise, Just watch the ones in the doorway, dont get too close onninitial pulls or you might get 2, they have a pretty good aggro radius. Pull w/BoD and run back to pet, backing him off as need be from the spell onslaught you'll be taking. etc etc to kill them.. Now, the elders are semi rare spawns, along with the beads looking like a rare drop. I was there for 20 hours or so over several days, saw about 25 or so elders that whole time of constant killing, as soon as I got the elder beads I gated and never went back but I have to say it would be a great spot for necros to learn many (solo fighting in tight spaces for instance)skills at once while under pressure, you do have to have control at all times and know exactly whats going on in the battle. The Elder Beads themselves are WONDERFUL and a must have for necros right under Circlet of Shadows, you can drain, BoD or tap the eye, whatever you need at the time, you cant make a eye if you have a pet up, casting time is short maybe 5 secs but you do have to wait for the eye to poof after it dies before you summon again, I guess you could hand it off to group members and all have a eye going if need be.. great item.. Might take you a good while to get one to drop, but well worth it in the end. Good Luck.
