Part of Classic eq is only being able to talk to people in your zone. If people can't understand that, then I guess they never will. Not trying to be offensive or anything...... I just remember fighting for so long to get global ooc removed, and when it finally was, the EC tunnel was born, and so was classic eq : D I think the pop would have to drop back down to 300 for something like this to happen.

The best thing about chat channels is you can choose to never join any automatically. If you don't want them, you can turn them off personally.

I voted no, but I would vote yes if the chat channels only worked in the zone you are in. That way if you are on a raid, and classes want to have their own side discussion, you could do it without spamming OOC and guild chat.
If you made the chat channels serverwide, EC tunnel would die.

More opt in-abilities for communication = more ability for players to bond socially and discuss the game.
Given that everyone could log into irc, I don't see that this is anything but a convenience. If you're worried that it creates server-wide comm, then just cap a chat channel size.

If all of you want an experience as close to classic as possible, then you would want the devs to try as hard as possible to match the original patch timeline.
