Default Charm worn off message not classic

EQOnline 1999 October Patch Notes

Patch Message

- Charm spells now message the message when they break (Enchanter, Bard, Necromancer, Druid)
Prior to the October 29, 1999 Patch, there was no message indicating your charm spell has worn off for all classes with such an ability.

Bumping this up.

For 7 months there should be no indication your charm spell has broken. No pet window to look at, no piece of text going to your log file. Just charm breaking and turning to attack you.

As an Enchanter main, I support this message! Time to pull the weeds.

While researching something else I came across this ( http://everquest.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=1357 )
Quote:
In a previous update, we added a message when a person recasts a charm spell on their charmed pet. Recasting charm on an existing pet did not actually re-charm the pet, it just failed silently and appeared to succeed. The new message is now displayed intentionally in these cases. This is not a bug.
maybe I misinterrupted this, but to me it's saying they added the message your spell did not take hold. When trying to refresh a charm on an already charmed mob, just curious can anyone confirm if p99 mechanics allow you to refresh a charm on a charmed mob? And would the classic mechanic also be for the refresh attempt to still fail?

no, you cannot recharm a currently charmed mob because charm is considered hostile. the message that returns is

"You try to cast a spell on [%target] but they are protected"

we're getting into a slightly different issue but I wonder when the first time the "...they are protected" message was introduced in general? when nuking non-pvp enabled players, etc.

They'll need to remove pet window if you really want to pull the weeds. Pet window disappearing makes it very obvious when a charm breaks.
