The goal of this entire place is to re-create EverQuest, as closely as possible to how it was in 1999-2001.
To achieve that goal, the staff here started with a "stock" EQ Emulator server ... which was based on a much later version of EverQuest. They then set to work on trying to make all the "unclassic bits" of that server classic ... but this was a massive undertaking, and there was no way they could find all those bits, test that the classic versions worked properly, and do all the relevant coding, by themselves.
So, what they did was build a server (Blue) that would let everyone "beta test" their work as they went ... while also giving people a way to experience "close to classic" EQ while they worked. This went on for about a decade, with Blue getting closer and closer to classic (in all three "eras" of vanilla/Kunark/Velious).
Once all that work was done, they finally unveiled their masterpiece: the Green server. Unlike Blue, Green was (almost) completely classic from the start, so there were no "side effects". For instance, on Blue there were various "plat duping" bugs, items dropping from the wrong mob bugs, etc., which resulted in the Blue economy being very unclassic. Green had none (ok, far far less) of these issues.
Thus, if you want the true classic experience, Green will be much closer than "Beta Blue". But again, Blue (and Red) were all we had for over a decade, so many players have several characters they love on that server. Also, Blue currently is the only server with Velious, and hopefully (someday) Blue will also get custom content, created by the P99 devs (after they finish all their classic coding).
