I would first find and download mp3 or wav sounds you like and then see if you can replace the sound files you dont like with the ones you do and see what happens. It would have to path the same right? so that the replaced file is subbed for the deleted file. Advice from a hunt and peck-er.

Removing these sounds are fine, but is there a way to possibly reduce the volume of the sound effect by modifying the wav? The thunderclap / lava boom sound needs this. Every time it rains i have to turn off my sound.

Bamzal here, back once again to push the boundaries of Classic EverQuest knowledge.

In order to disable the Lavastorm thunder, open lavastorm.emt in notepad, and delete these 4 lines:
(near the end of the file)
- stomp_01.wav
- boulder_hit.wav
- stomp_02.wav
- thunder_rolling.wav

The most egregious is thunder_rolling.wav

Now that we are on the topic of lavastorm.emt. emt are newer zone sound files. only new zones or revamped zones have these. or more specifically, zones built later in the timeline (which also use the new eqg zone files instead of old s3d files).

Therefore in order to properly restore the classic Lavastorm sound assets (and any other revamped zone for that matter) we need to delete the .emt files for those revamped zones. The classic Lavastorm sound assets dont use those wav files mentioned above. The classic sound assets are: lava_lp.wav, steamlp.wav, etc

So the question shifts from "how do i remove the thunder" to "why are the devs allowing the revamped sound assets to be loaded? they should prevent the revamped sound assets from loading similar to how they are prevent the revamped zone file from loading"

Has someone made lower volume versions of these sound files that you can drag/drop replace the loud ones with?
