Default midi music: notes get stuck

Sometimes it sounds like notes "hang" or "gets stuck", when playing zone midi music. I have heard it both in north freeport near the bank, and also in befallen.

I don't know how to replicate the bug though and it happens inconsistently.

The same thing happens to me. I have never searched for a solution, and would be interested to hear if there is one.

Using the bassmididrv from this post fix my issue.

https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=81207

Download and install bassmididrv from the following link. http://p99.yourfirefly.com/

Next download the 1mgm.sf2 file. http://p99.yourfirefly.com/1mgm.sf2

Install BassMidiDrv. Launch it and then under SoundFonts (Port A) add the 1mgm.sf2 file FIRST then add the
synthusr.sf2 (not synthusr2.sf2) from your Everquest folder SECOND.

Do the same thing for SoundFonts (Port B)

Finally go to the Advanced Tab and select SoundFonts (Port A) and press Apply.

BASSMIDI Driver worked well for me back in 2011 and 2012 when I was first playing on P99. It's been replaced by https://officialblackmidi.fandom.com/wiki/OmniMIDI since 2015.

If you're going to use something like this, you might as well replace those soundfonts included with the EverQuest install with something that sounds much better.

The 8mb SBLive! soundfont would be a good starting point with its good mix of higher quality instruments. You can find it if you search for it.

Another soundfont I use is the HQ Orchestral soundfont collection v3.0 at https://musescore.com/groups/young-c...discuss/172224

You can download XMPlay from https://support.xmplay.com/files_view.php?file_id=676 and load different soundfonts to see what individual tracks would sound like in the .xmi files.

I tried OmniMidi awhile ago, in an attempt to get old dosbox games to sound better(and experiment with different soundfonts), and while it worked, it also had some awfully long loading times, when starting dosbox games.

Haven't looked into it with regards to EQ yet.

I hoped there was a fix that wouldn't affect win10-midi settings "globally".

p.s. That 1mgm.sf2 soundfont is delightfully awesome with duke nukem 3d! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Came here to resolve the same issue, am now SoundFont junkie. I have spent so long staring at a wall with auto-attack on tweaking settings and regret nothing.

Thanks for the fix, and for introducing me to the Orchestral Soundfont Collection!

Cool

These days, I'd guess most probably play with game music off so wouldn't notice this rather annoying and seemingly pretty common bug brought up here....

That said, I play with some in-game music situationally like Kelethin, Qeynos, Kerra Isle etc. Maybe 20% or so of my P99 gaming and have noticed the sound bug you brought up at least 6 times in the last month with my limited midi immersuon.

Many thanks for posting the bug fix here, guys! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Do you use the HQ Orchestral for P99? I like it in some cases, but there are a handful of songs that I've found so far that get completely blown out by something that sounds kind of like a glass organ (the waterfront song and the Karana bridge song both have it). I was thinking of going in and editing the soundfont to find that instrument and turn it off, but if you've got it figured out pretty well with your soundfont loading order I figured it'd be easier to ask you.
