Memory exception error
Although the number changes each time I try to login I keep getting the following error.
[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] This is after I login and I'm in windowed mode. I've taken quite awhile researching this. So far I've done the following: Complete reinstall Made sure I followed the instructions for set up to a T Defrag Killed processes Made sure I had enough available memory (I knew I did but I checked anyway). Made sure my built in windows 10 security wasn't the problem Got on another computer and asked my guild in game. Made sure I had the multi-player exemption. Any help would be extremely helpful.

Have you changed anything on your PC from the last time you played and it worked?

It never worked on my computer so I went out and bought and new one and I'm getting this:
[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] This is what I've tried on this new computer: Shutting off all firewalls Shutting off antivirus Running WinEQ 2.0 Getting eqclient.ini from roommates computer, putting it in the directory and putting FALSE in regards to Windowed Mode Changing the contents of the eqclient.ini as shown here (and tried the other idead here as well) - http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/sho...ht=memory+read Installed and updated Directx Added the line C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe /c start "EverQuest" /affinity 1 just before my "C: line and made sure patchme was at the end. Also, although I have changed the eqclient.ini to show FALSE in windowed mode, it doesn't start in windowed mode. Any ideas anyone?

Turns out that you should always make sure that your folder is under just C: and make sure when you edit your shortcut that you get rid of the quotation marks (") on both lines.
Works on the new computer and I'm about to check it on the old one. I'll let you know soon.

So it just happened to me. Hope I can help anyone else.
I can reliably reproduce this error. However this will not be the cause of the problem for everyone. The issue stems from something in the eqclient.ini It is related to being in full screen mode or windowed mode. I found I could launch the game and avoid the error if I set windowed mode to TRUE. However any attempt to go into fullscreen mode resulted in a crash and the same memory error. Someone posted a "fixed" ini file and I used it to resolve the problem completely. I just had to tinker with it to paste in all my original keybinds and settings without causing the error again. (save time setting up all my keybinds all over again) So, make a backup of your eqclient.ini with all your settings you like. Then paste this in eqclient.ini overwriting it all. You can make use of a difference checker(google it) to see whats different in it, compared to yours. I think the origination of the error may have stemmed from me using the /exit command to quit the game fast while I was in fullscreen mode. Just a guess. It's the last thing I could think of before the bug happened to me. I didnt change or alter my computer or install anything new. I also noticed in my "crashing" ini file, the refresh rate for fullscreen was set to 0. Even if I set it to 60, it eventually was set back to 0 while in-game. But the "fixed" ini file has none of these problems. "Fixed" eqclient.ini Quote:

Hmm, I'm still having issues. If I quit the game in any manner while in fullscreen, it makes the error start happening again. And I have to switch into windowed mode and change the full screen refresh back to 60.
EDIT: The error seems to be that trying to go into fullscreen mode with the log-in client is a big no-no. The one you use to connect to servers before launching the full game. Are we supposed to be able to go into full screen mode with that first client? See image below, its the server login client.

So further investigating,
There seem to be 2 options for me at least if I wish to play the game in fullscreen mode without constant trouble. 1. Launch the game with window mode enabled. Make sure the config has 60 refresh rate set for fullscreen. Then once in the game, go to fullscreen. Then before you logout out/close the game, swap back to window mode. 2. Using Windows OS, right click eqgame and go to compatibility mode. Check the box for "Run in 640 x 480 resolution" Now launch the client. It will be extremely pixelated, BUT you only have to do this once. If you can manage to login to a server and load up the actual game, then go into fullscreen mode in-game. Then log off/close the game while in full screen mode. Now you should see the login client is in full screen with a clean readable resolution.

Never use full screen. The game hates it. Just do windowed and edit the file to max resolution.

But when you launch the server login client, you can either have fullscreen enabled in the config file, or just press ALT+ENTER and go into full screen mode right from the start. It is not necessary to wait till you get into the actual game to go into fullscreen.
