The typical stereotype of docile, subservient Japanese women has not at all been my experience in Japan. It's possible it was that way in the past, but modern Japanese women for the most part have a much greater degree of agency than past generations.

I don't know about other places in asia, but Japan at least, seems to not be that way anymore.

According to the article most of the Japanese women that American soldiers would have interacted with were sex workers, so that's probably at least part of the reason they were seen as docile and subservient women at the time.
