One of the brilliant advantages of being a necro is you don't need that much equipment. The problem is you kind of need to muddle through until level 12. After that Kurn's is a great place to level because you can actually fear kite in there if you're careful with your pet (since skeleton's don't social aggro). I'd focus on trying to get your undead root more than minor equipment pieces, which can help in a pinch if you do use Kurn's to get to level 20.
