I mean we are now entering a new chapter of human history where manmade bioweapons become endemic diseases. Only authoritarian states will be able to control these epidemics when the world is rampant with them, thereby outcompeting (and also forcing foreign powers to become more and more like China, more "culturally chinese", to stay in the game). Maybe reduce population in the third world. It is wild and yeah, aliens are basically real at this point.

Things have become absolutely nuts. I don't recall people being worried about immunity from the progressive plague that is clearly manmade but never admitted to be by any real official, and receiving monthly booster shots from "these nasty flus nowadays" in a shadow war against foreign biowarfare efforts in neuromancer however. And there were flying cars already. The real future sucks!!!!
