Player made chat channels?

I remember later into my time on EQ I discovered there were serverwide channels one could join, is this possible at all? I dont think it was classic era, but it sure was nice being able to say, chat with people in class specific channels, or see trade offerings from around the globe. Just a thought!

IIRC, chat channels were added in 2002, which is way beyond Velious.

Anyone happen to know when Focus effects came to be? Thought that was late Velious but I can't recall.
