Having problems spawning Tanik Greskil for coldain shawl #4

Is there some trick to this? I'm using a pet set to guard in order to find the exact spot to trigger, which works, but sometimes it seems to get bugged and I can't spawn anything. I got three death squads in a row, and for each one my pet faced a certain direction and I spawned them basically instantly. Now suddenly my pet isn't facing where he's supposed to, and there are no other npc's nearby, and I can't spawn anything. Is there a timer that you have to wait for between attempts? Didn't seem that way for the first three deathsquads, got them all within a 10 minute window so I think something about the spawning\despawning of the trap itself might be bugged.
