Miscellaneous: Mage Epic pets are currently not classic on P99 (too overpowered)

I grouped with a guildie last night and had logs of an 81 damage max hit on the mage epic pet. Max hit should be 67 on the pet in era.

Evidence is probably the most solid possible, it is an in era 3 minute parse of a mage epic pet 3 days before Luclin.

The only buff he had was Burnout IV, no epic damage shield buff.

The mist panther is level 60, max hits for 62, and used before for parsing melee damage.

I used a parser I got from http://www.cws.org/~pasketti/eqlog.html . It's not great for doing NPC/pet stuff cause the misses weren't calculated. It said that the pet did 6907 damage. The panther did 2868 (including 62 to me once when I got too close for a sec). The log of damage goes from 48:38 to 51:29, so 2 minutes, 51 seconds, or 171 seconds. That comes out to 40.39 dps. It connected a bash 11 times(average of 25.82 damage), landed a kick 4 times(average 23.75 damage), and landed a hit 124 times(average of 52.65 damage).

The panther hit Lekn 85 times. Epic buff would have 4250 damage! (assuming it is 50dmg) That would bring DPS of tanking pet to 65.24 dps (yay for farming!)

edit: Oh forgot procs/spells. Proced 18 times, for a *potential* of 2574 extra damage(18*143). Stuns were all resist I guess since the mob is 60th. Not sure, but they didn't show up.

At the end, taking the damage done by mistpanther between me gating and the 11% of the last health report, gives the epic pet 3074 hit points. (2868-62-50-20)/(1.00-0.11)

lets look at stats real quick, pet lvl 50, plane mob lvl, 49-52 usually...plane mob wins, pet max 67 plane mob max in the 100s..plane mob wins, pet hp 3000 plane mob hp 11000...plane mob wins...so explain how you pet does this again(ds and spells dont make up for that much)

The pet looks like a huge air pet, it's lvl 50 and hits for max 67dmg. It also does a 300dd with 11sec stun. AND it got a 51pt self only dmg shield

Other Evidence:
This is solid as well, March 2002 post of max hit of 67.

It's a guaranteed 49. It has almost 3k hp, a 50pt ds and
a max hit of 67, plus stun and DD procs. It *is* a monster.
As the hardest epic to get (by design) it should be.

I'll be happy just to bet my 54 then my 60 water and a
staff from kedge. With it's BS and level 45-49 it does
nearly as much damage in groups as an epic. It lacks in
the soloing department because of the disparity in HP and
the DS you can lay on it versus the epic HP/DS.

I don't know when this change occurred to the 81 max hit, but it appears there was something in the Luclin July 2002 Patch which may have affected it, else a stealth change?:

- Pet Resistance Changes: Pets will now use their master's level and
resistances when saving against spells cast by NPCs (against PCs pets
will use their own resistances and level as they always have) - unless
the pet has special resistances, in which case it will use that
resistance.
- Altered pet summoning spells so that they always summon the most
powerful pet possible, instead of pets within a 5 level range.
- /pet report health now uses the same user defined color as spell
text.

The pet looks like a huge air pet, it's lvl 50 and hits for max 67dmg. It also does a 300dd with 11sec stun. AND it got a 51pt self only dmg shield

Just pointing out this guy is clearly not a credible source. 300 DD with an 11 second stun? I'm sure most mages would gladly trade their 81 max hit for a 67 max hit if they got that absurdly OP DD/stun combo.

The logs were really all that was needed, best source for the DD and hits. No chance of remembering incorrectly.

The last patch before Luclin was on 11/08/2001 which would put these logs outside the scope of the project. Perhaps some in-era evidence to validate your hypothesis is in order.

There is another angle of course which is the known bug that causes mage pets to not proc nearly as often as they should like in-era. This is perhaps a balancing to have a more classic pet dps experience.

edit: Oh forgot procs/spells. Proced 18 times, for a *potential* of 2574 extra damage(18*143). Stuns were all resist I guess since the mob is 60th. Not sure, but they didn't show up.

So they should be casting those spells very frequently. And in fact I remember that magicians were concerned that their pets were wasting time casting these spells rather than meleeing and GZ was sure that it was not a problem. I recently bought a Magician and my feeling was that the pets were not casting nearly enough. So I went out to DL, maloed some green/lb cons and sicced my pet on them. I was carefully watching for resists, but between the low level of the mobs, malo, and getting lucky on the level of the pets every spell landed.

Now my (possibly faulty) memory is that the pets would cast every 12/6 seconds like clockwork. But even if it was somewhat random, I am 100% sure that the earth pet rooted more than once a minute. This is not only a pretty big issue for mages, but I'm wondering whether dragons are casting their aoes frequently enough.

I did what I could with our current system to remove any unnecessary delays; however, it is still too randomized. We need code development to fix this any further.
