In theory I support this, but in practice it's all but impossible to implement. If you set a 100% inheritance tax, the rich will just give all their wealth away before they die (at whatever the, much lower, income tax rate is for the recipients).

Plus, as much as it sounds great to say "let everyone start equal", it's just not the reality of the world. Human beings want to provide a better life for their children, and trying to completely prevent that is fighting against human nature.

We're never going to eliminate the rich (in our lifetimes at least), nor will we eliminate them making their children rich. But we can set much higher income and innheritance tax rates than we currently have, and that would be better for society.

The inheritance tax is a crime. A crime people allow because they hate chad.

The only people it hurts are poor people because rich people don't GAF about it because chad figure's out ways around it. Like buying all the houses so you cant afford them and then transferring ownership to holding companies and you're like "guess ill sell my family home because I cant pay for this"

all this stuff is a flat tax on the poor.

(Although for the record, I agree with you that most of those are taxes on the poor ... just not inheritance tax. Almost by definition, the poor have nothing to inherit: they have debt.)

In many cases this is the only time the rich who are avoiding paying their taxes can be caught. The final resulting redistribution of the wealth is probably better for the nation where the social gap is getting larger and larger. Not a solution but the right solutions won't be passed in congress when dark money runs the show.

This is exactly my point about messaging, the idea behind the tax is that we're fixing the gap between the rich and the poor. But what we're really doing is setting banks up to eat homes for pennies on the dollar. (Increasing the gap between the wealthy and the poor)

In reality higher taxes dont make people better people, if they did we'd all be living under a king right now.
