Default Container weight changes - Apr2001

In April 2001, there was a patch that made containers not eat invalid combines. Along with this change, several containers had their weight increased.

For the purpose of classic, certain containers should weigh less until Apr2001.

Here is some research:

On the downside, many portable tradeskill containers will given a weight increase, making it harder for packrats like myself to lug about multiple different containers for tradeskilling in the field. (My worst packrat is my shamaness, who regularly carries around a spirit pouch, bearskin potion bag, Coldain Tanners Kit *and* a cooking spit.)

  • Cooking spits have had their weight increased to 3. Contrary to the patch message, skewers are still weight 0.1

Does anyone have more information about which containers were affected by this, and the original weight?

Toolbox weight prior to Apr 2001

I personally use two toolboxes, a rough leather sack and a sewing kit
as my containers. The toolboxes I just made when I was practicing
smithing, so I decided to keep them around since they can hold pretty
much anything and weigh the standard "trade container" weight (0.4)...

- A Mar 2001 capture lists a table of containers, weights, and capacities. Fletching Kit, Large Sewing Kit, and Toolbox are listed at 0.4 wt.

If you're a cheapskate, I believe the new Erudite sewing kit's combine
button doesn't chew up items (I haven't tested this with an Erudite -
all other races get 'only Erudites may use this sewing kit'). It weighs
0.4 and holds 8 items like a standard sewing kit, and is available from
vendors in Erudin and Paineel for the same price as a regular sewing kit
(a plat and a bit). Expect them to nerf this and make it a difficult to
smith item instead sometime soon...

So now you have a cheap, safe alternative to those
backpacks-tailored-from-lead.
These comments note that the Vale Sewing Kit, Feir'Dal Sewing Kit, and Erudite Sewing Kit started at 0.4 wt. These represent the biggest changes (0.4 to 4.0 wt) mentioned in the original message by Absor. Also worth noting that the cultural kits didn't present a combine risk for other races.

You buy it from a merchant. They aren't always easy to find, but, for
instance, in Cabilis if you are looking _in_ the front door of the monk
guild the merchant that sells them is directly to your left (among a lot of
other merchants, check them all). They weigh 0.2 and have 6 slots and can
carry most anything.
You can also make your own food sometimes, which is
almost always lighter than storebought food (don't start out doing that,
it's kind of a pain and requires research).

Spits originally weighed 0.2....
