Every post states that I need a moderator to approve. Is this a requirement for new members? Every guide and FAQ I look through doesn't say anything about it.

SoI guess I'm curious to see if a post here works...

Yes all new accounts need to have their first few posts moderated. You can thank the porn spammer accounts that have come before you.
