Pet pathing in caves (Field of Bone)

My necromancer pet returns to the surface while I am traveling in the spider cave of Field of Bone, and then teleports back down to attack when ordered. Between pulls while I am underground the pet pulls aggro from mobs above me like red con scaley dogs. I don't think ill ever fully recover from this loss.
