Your sure it’s not because of things like universal healthcare, affordable colleges, paternity and maternity leave, mandatory minimums for paid time off, holiday pay, high minimum wages, working and well funded public transit systems, no for-profit prison systems, no two party system that constantly shits on itself, politicians that aren’t so obviously paid off by mega corporations, universal acceptance of things like climate change, tax money actually being invested in infrastructure, and dare I say it… socialism?
No one tries to argue the climate isn’t changing. Moreso people are arguing just what impact mankind is having on these changes, and how fruitless it appears to do things like stop drilling here and instead importing oil drilled in some other country as if we still don’t live on the same planet

Or not coal mining here but mining for all the metal components for our phones and electric cars elsewhere

Or the effectiveness of clamping down here even though China and India are the world’s biggest polluters and seem to be perfectly fine getting away with not giving a fuck

We can’t tell them what to do. I get that. But constantly admonishing our citizens while simultaneously demanding more and more of their money to go towards fixing bad weather while completely ignoring those 2 country’s role just feels disingenuous

But I’m all for giving my money to fund more science on how it’s not going to be nearly enough money to fix the climate. After all, knowledge is power

Just think, at the end of this new 100 years war, Ukraine can finally say “It’s our rubble now”

Gonna win any day now
As broken and as brainwashed as the Russian people are, I seriously wonder whether they'll be willing to put up with years of insanely high casualty figures and painful sanctions that -- despite Russian state propaganda -- have been biting hard into the Russian economy at all levels.

Putin's survival, both politically and in very literal terms, probably hinges on him succeeding in Ukraine. But nobody rules alone, and if / when it becomes crystal clear that he's leading Russia into a dead end, the Russian political appetite for conquest might very well diminish.

Ukraine currently ranks #2 as most corrupt country in Europe

They've held that honor for years.

But all of a sudden, in the last 6 months, they can be completely trusted.

It's like lending your meth addicted cousin $5000 and him convincing you everything is fine.
Nobody can argue that Ukraine has suffered from high levels of corruption. But the country is in an existential fight, and again, we see constant evidence of Ukrainians utilizing military aid to effectively push back against the military goliath next door. Again, there's really no evidence that Ukraine is misappropriating aid at a widespread level.

I call it idealogical colonialism. Our ideals are best, so we will push them on the world, whether they want them or not

Just not being eco-friendly to China or India. We won’t touch that with a 100 foot pole

Yep, spot on. I felt the same way about mass immigration as well. Brain Drain mass immigration is a form of colonialism.
