Hell, even the united states is technically socialist. The qualms of the left and the right are a matter of "purity" in the socialist approach. The left wants a more "pure" form of socialism, but history has taught us that diverging too far away from a more tempered stance on socialism leads to very bad places on both the left (communism) and the right (nazism)

Granted, USA is, essentially, an amalgamation of socialism and capitalism because extemes in either direction both lead to the abolishment of private property.
