Saddest EQ lore moment for you?

I know I shouldn't be posting gloomy topics during a global pandemic, so if you're not feeling so well, maybe this is not a good question to you.

Years ago, when I first killed the cyclopses Broon and Proon in East Karana, this one really hit home:

When Proon dies he says:

ARGH!!!... Broon? Broon? That you? What all this bright light? I coming son. argh.. argh.. Don't cry.. Poppa here now.. argh..

I felt truly sorry, and had to remind myself that this is just a computer game. Nevertheless, I have never returned to hurt them again.

Im not sure, but gaming wise it was FF6 for me. When you find Gau's parents and the final fantasy crew dress him up and plan to reintroduce him to his parents... /cry poor Gau

I don’t know about saddest, but I’ve always enjoyed the lore of ToFS. Mayong Mistmoore locks up his bride (Tserrina) after making her into a vampire and finding her too ugly. Irony.

Tofs is an allegory for Everquest. The debased addict players are the bride. Verant/Sony is the abusive vampire constructing the labyrinth.

ToFS is definitely my favourite "gloomy" zone in all of EQ, including all expansions I have ever played. I never really got the full lore, but the emotes in the zone are already super atmospheric - and tell of a haunted house full of sad stories.
