If we're being honest with each other, no one actually enjoys playing the game EverQuest anymore. Once the nostalgia wears off, you're stuck with a game that actively makes the player question their choice to continue to play it. It's not very friendly, and it's severely broken in a lot of meaningful ways. On top of that, if you're interested in seeing the end game monsters or high end pixels, you're having to put up with insufferable people who seemingly go out of their way to create a horrible experience for everyone.

So that begs the questions as to why on earth would anyone willingly partake in such masochism in video game form?

We think the philosophy of our new-ish guild <Friends with Benefits> is the answer. We seek to, first and foremost, plumb the depths of friendship. Second to that is to spend time with those friends for the acquisition of loot. We are aiming to end the false dichotomy that you need to subject yourself to overbearing and rude people who you don't get along with in exchange for in-game rewards.

Ideals:
1- Have fun with the game
2- Come and go as you please
3- Help each other out when you can

Concepts:
- Democratic decision making
- Grow organically, expand/change focus as interests shift
- Create opportunities for community raiding
- Raids as isolated encounters, rules explicit but vary by raid

Caveats:
We're still fairly small, and will continue to be that way for awhile. Growing organically without having to sacrifice the fun of the game to stress about pixel lust means it's going to take some time and effort to reach escape velocity.
