I remember on live I had a dark elf rogue female, and for some reason I always got more help, free stuff and more groups with her than with all my other male characters combined.

I think deep down they all knew it I was a man, but they did not care, its ... like the idea of the fantasy?

Played retail mmo's for decades, it was sort of shocking running into guys even in the 2010's. That thought ever female character was a Girl In Real Life, but you would come across the "alpha" dudes who couldn't fathom that a guy would play a female character.
