So someone told me you could set the traps off with invis and it was safe. I tried to do this and they aggroed me through invis and got me killed. Is this intentional, or bug?

Intentional.

Just root them and camp out, they depop the moment they don't have aggro anymore. Or if you're bound there, train to the zoneout tree and gate back in.
