It's "sau" like a female pig because it's the word OW (like you yell when your jerk of a friend hits you in the balls) with an S in front of it, thus S-OW.
Also, I think maybe the reason op remembers it being "spirit of the wolf" is because sow potions *are* called "blood of THE wolf" not just "blood of wolf". That's my theory. | ||

Had no idea that the pig form was pronounced differently, learn something new every day!
Is that true for british english too? Not a native english speaker so always assumed it was pronounced as the verb in both cases | ||

In the early days, shield of words was also abbreviated SoW, and it was confusing because people want spirit of wolf much more frequently.
