I feel sorry for the woman but honestly the entire country having an opinion about this is stupid. Kids do that shit every single day to other kids/people/etc. Do they get 500k? Nope. Kraftwerk comes off pretty angry about it but the dudes right people are seriously pathetic these days. I was sitting in a waiting room in a hospital when this story basically came out, they talked about it on "The View" for like half an hour. Every raging vagina on that show went nuts about this like its some sweeping epidemic and we need to fight the scourge that is bullying. Everyone was also in complete shock that something like this happened, because as everyone knows bullying is a brand new problem that is sweeping society.
I know people that get shit all the time for doing their job and nobody is handing them free money because of it. What makes this woman so special?

I grew up in a rural community, Junior high school & High school rode the bus together. the schools started at the same time. The kids on my bus ran off 4 female bus drivers and the male bus superintendent in about 3 months... NOBODY wanted to drive our bus. There was one kid on our bus who set the bus on fire on the regular. He would set the back seat on fire, then move to another seat then stand up and make a big deal about how he smelled smoke etc. He would get suspended from the bus and then his mom would ultimately go to the school board and complain about it and it would get lifted. He always had weapons on the bus & at school, he was verbally abusive to everyone. He wasn't the only bad kid. He was just really the worst. The first bus driver they ran off had been driving the same route for 20 years. She lived in my neighborhood. Some kids from the bus set stuff on fire in her yard, they'd prank call her, they'd show up at her house when she suspended them from the bus etc. After the bus superintendent refused to drive our bus the school board made us and our parents go to a meeting and we had to sign behavior contracts for the bus and acting up on MY bus got you in more hot water than if you acted up on a different bus. Nothing was ever really done to those kids and ultimately the problem with them was a pattern of their parents allowing them to act like total shitbags. Some of them are successful in life now and have changed. The kid who used to set the bus on fire? He overdosed 6 years after we graduated. The problem is in the parenting. Kids are sneaky but kids don't suddenly become total shitbags overnight. You should see warning signs. Every time those kids on my bus ran off a bus driver, it made me sad for society (This was years ago. This was roughly 20 years ago that this happened.) I really wished i could do something nice for those ladies. They ran off the COOLEST bus driver we could have ever hoped for because they found out her husband was black (She was white) and they proceeded to start writing racist messages on the back of seats etc. They found out who her son was at school and started harrassing him there. Just no reason for it whatsoever. I think you people who are mad at this lady need to do a little soul searching. She didn't ASK for people to donate money. Pretty much the story just somehow came out and went public and it got media attention. Some other independent person decided to ask for money to send her on a nice vacation.....She didn't have an entitled attitude. Quit being so jealous and so freaking anti poor people/ anti-anything-that-looks-like-socialist-behavior. In short...No, this problem is DEFINITELY not a new one (bullying) but it should never have been permissible in the first place. People should never have allowed their children to get away with as much in the past and we wouldn't be where we are today. I'm Amelinda and that's what I Think.

Does this lady deserve money? No. Is it awesome that she got money? Yes. Should these kids be severely punished? Yes. Should the parents of these kids have some repercussions (maybe financial where it really hurts?) Yes. I would also like to add that we did not have 'major' issues at schools when corporal punishment was allowed... This was not necessarily a function of 'beatings' making things better, but it was a function of teachers actually having the ability to discipline (or fight back) when kids are totally out of control. Ask any teacher how hard it is to punish out of control children and you will be in for the shock of your life. Children literately run free in public schools because there really can not be any viable repercussions...

Beat the shit out of them until they fear you. Then when all you have to do is look at them and they tremble with fear, you know you've done your job as a man and know that they will grow up knowing how to respect you.

Beating kids doesn't do shit. Proper parenting is where it's at. Kids are fools.

far worse things are happening in the world.
she wasn't forced to do that job, she decided to do it. working with middle schoolers should give you a thick skin. if you're going to sob when someone calls you fat, then you shouldn't have chosen that job. personal responsibility matters.
