Is "your bow shot did double damage" effected by a stat ?

No, rangers (starting at lvl 51) do double archery damage to stationary and unrooted targets. If you're not seeing it on every shot, then the target is either moving or rooted.

I saw that, but I think I'm more inclined to believe the guy who tested it out in game than something Brad McQuaid said once 20 years ago. Brad McQuaid said a lot of stuff.

I just wanted to see if it had been changed in the last year since a lot of people seem to think it's not classic, although I've never seen any real in-game proof from live that confirmed that one way or the other.

On Red server Dexterity affects PVP hit rate. It does this by comparing your dexterity to your opponent's agility.
Brad had a vision of how everquest design should go, that doesn’t mean his coders implemented every detail exactly as Brad foresaw it. I’d take what Brad (rip) said with a pinch of salt as he had a grand vision for what eq should be and in his descriptions of the game he seemed to try to maintain that air of mystique.

Which is exactly why it's still fun and interesting to play. It's amazing that after more than 20 years under the endless scrutiny of tens of thousands of the biggest nerds on the planet this game can still surprise you, and you can still find new ways to play it.

I mean you need great strength to draw a longbow in RL makes sense you need high str for dmg in game

theres nothing ambiguous about that quote. no "air of mystique" It's a direct line. There is nothing to misinterpret if you are literate.

If on P99 bow damage is based on STR then p99 is wrong. P99 devs probably couldn't get DEX to work right so they based bow damage on a melee damage format, which is increased by STR.

Melee dmg is so screwed on P99 so that should be your first indicator. It ebbs and flows with ~10 hits ~10 misses and repeat. on Live melee damage was more fluid with hits and misses interwoven.

Jimjam isn't misinterpreting anything. He's simply well aware, like most of us, that Mcquaid was notorious for having no idea how his own games worked. He was very good as a PR man and hype builder, not so good at keeping aware of the nuts and bolts.

Back on Live, it was definitely Dex (I played a Ranger, and did extensive testing). The fact that it is Str on P99 is a bug.

I'm not going to comment on whether or not the original game had a modified code that corrected for streaks in the randomizer, but I'd just like to point out that true randomness is streaky as hell.
