It's been 6 years of the same nonsense

It's just a comedy show at this point

Feel free to take me up on my bet. I'll accept all takers.

I haven't been really following this forum since it's been so long since I played P99, I got logged out on my phone somehow and have been too lazy to deal with re-setting my pw

I'm still logged in on my computer and from skimming this it's frustrating how much has been said about this stupid classified documents crap without mentioning this:

The documents were largely stuff about Trump, stuff Trump "wanted the public to know about". What a surprise that Trump would take stuff about him. I'm sure the haters have a huge chubby in anticipation of them being state nuclear secrets but I'm going to spoiler alert your future disappointment

The president has the authority to de-classify whatever he wants whenever the F he wants, so Trump is claiming that he kept that stuff because he de-classified it. But he forgot to fire up the labelmaker and put a de-classified label on the boxes, so he's still in trouble. He probably straight up forgot to de-classify them or was putting it off and now is trying to backtrack. Here's more info on that:

"As for the president's power to declassify materials, here's some background on how it works, according to current and former intelligence officials familiar with the declassification process. First, a U.S. president does have uniquely sweeping declassification abilities, though there is a process that involves written documentation and several other steps. It's not the case that a president can declassify documents with just verbal instructions. His instruction to declassify a given document would first be memorialized in a written memo, usually drafted by White House counsel, which he would then sign"

- He didn't fire up the laminator label-maker and slap the D/C sticker on them and now he's in big trouble

The process thing I think it's just standard practice and noone has the authority to overrule POTUS if they/them don't follow it. Power is power.

A public statement alone is enough to declassify whatever he wants

It's called "being President"

Apparently, the documents that didn't exist. That were planted, were in fact declassified.
Last week: Trump didn't take anything from the White House.

A few days ago: There were documents found, but the FBI planted them.

Yesterday: Maybe Trump took some papers but they weren't classified.

Today: Trump took documents that were classified, but he declassified them (with his mind).

I don't think a statement is required. The action speaks for itself.

Writing a letter to yourself asking for permission and signing it? Yea there's a process

You would think a president just taking the stuff home would essentially be the same thing, because obviously security has been compromised at that point unless their security at home is somehow better than the FBI's. Most healthcare jobs allow people to take patient's legally protected health information home on their phones or computers to work on it remotely but that's after verifying there's still encryption and if it gets out, it's your ass and your agency's ass
