Default Green, canni spam vs canni dance

What are you guys doing?

My napkin math and rough, quick test in game suggests that for me personally (my clicking speed, latency, etc), spamming canni is somewhat faster regen but much less efficient than trying to "blind dance" (what I call canni-sit-canni-sit but without actively trying to catch med ticks), which is about the same speed but again significantly less efficient than actively, carefully canni dancing with 1 canni per tick and catching all server ticks sitting.

The last option is a pain imo. I can't seem to time server ticks without watching my actual hp numbers in my inventory screen. So opening that up and waiting a tick or two to make sure I've got the real tick and fake tick right before I start dancing... meh.

I tend to blind dance. I could see spam being a better option if you have bard regen or for some reason another healer has mana to burn and is healing you.

Once Kunark rolls around, spamming with canni 2 or 3 is probably similar to blind dancing because of their greater speed letting you get it done faster so you can sit and catch all your med ticks, right? And then with canni 4 and its longer cast time and much higher hp->mp numbers, it will probably always be worth spamming instead of dancing? And that's without even bard song or outside heals, and pre-torpor.

Share your wisdom with a shaman noob and his low-wisdom troll shaman.

So you left Enchanters and went to Shaman huh? Excellent choice [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

My Green Shaman doesn't even have Cann 1 yet, so I guess I'm not the appropriate person to answer, but from my decades of playing a Shaman here and on live I'm pretty sure that unless you're in one of those situations where "oh shit the group is about to die unless I pull some mana out of my ass" ... (or until you get Torpor) ... you always want to dance.

Whether you do it "blind" comes down to how much efficiency you want vs. how much effort you want to put in.

When I played Shaman on blue, I generally did it blind in groups and tried to time it between ticks solo. I never spammed rank 1 Canni because, without doing any math, I just assumed it was worse than simply medding.

In theory, you always want to Canni between ticks with rank 1 Canni. In practice, that isn't going to happen with much consistency because of the latency inherent in online gaming and the wonky way in which ticks are reported in the client we're using. I don't even trust the supposedly foolproof method of opening your inventory and going by your hit point ticks.

Absolute madman tier: set up a metronome timed to ticks and use that to groove your canni dance.

If you are in a no rush situation, you canni in between each meditate tick looking at the hp values to actually identify when is the meditate tick (I agree that it's a pita compared to live where it was much easier to catch the med tick). In this setup, I try to remain around 70% HP if below 70% mana. Once mana is over 70%, I only canni if near 100% life.

If you are in trouble and are runnin oom, then spamming canni without sitting might be a better and faster option, though less effecient.

Neither the wife nor I generally pay any attention to meditate ticks when using Cannibalize on a non-Torpor Shaman. The exceptions are those exceedingly rare occasions where every last point of mana needs to be squeezed out. Otherwise both of us prefer to simply cannibalize down to as low as practical then meditate, trading a few ticks of mana here and there for a less tedious and far more pleasant gameplay experience. Pursuit of efficiency can be nice, but not at the cost of turning into a fun-killer. Any Shaman player should know how to canni-dance, but I do not advise doing so during the course of normal gameplay since it's annoying and largely unnecessary. Individual opinions may (and do) of course vary.

It's definitely way more of a pain to time canni dance properly, to the point where I'll find myself leaning forward and squinting at the way too small UI elements to watch the mana bar for jumps to time canni and end up getting annoyed and saying fuck it. I much prefer to use a spyglass and just miss a single sitting tic while I spam away like 40-60% hp and then sit down to regen/med.

The best time to canni is in between melee swings like a boss, take damage, take melee damage, take more damage.

I will never help you, Tecmos, after you spit in the face of everyone who helped you before.

That's more than a slight exaggeration, but you're certainly entitled to your own opinion. I'm not even quite sure what I did that you think amounts to this [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
