If consciousness is something that exists beyond the physical body (and all evidence into the matter has proven that's not the case), then there is a possibility that it is recycled into another physical form (various reincarnations).
If that case is also true, then there is the case that something exists responsible for the creation/destruction/overseeing of consciousness. Thus you could make the case for Gods etc. However we can't even prove the first stage (that consciousness exists separate from the physical body), therefore anything more than death being a state of eternal sleep is pure speculation.
