Question Wizards have the least caster DPS?

Just so i understand this..

1) Raid specific to giants & dragons in Velious = respectable wizard DPS.

2) Everything else:
Lvl 40-60 - Enchanter (charm) > Necro > Mage > Druid (charm) > Wizard > Druid > Enchanter

Is this a fair assessment?

Kunark Dragons (well any 32k hp boss) Wizards are king makes bosses a lot easier when they only live 15 or 20 seconds and only get 1 maybe 2 AE's off

+ their epic shield will absorb quite a few smaller AE's or most of the damage from the nasty 1k dmg AE dragons

Every fight is very different. I can out DPS most of those classes in probably 1/3rd of the current raid targets. Its all very specific but in general and certainly in solo and group settings that would be about the proper order for DPS.

What most people dont realize about a Wizard is all of the utility. Burst DPS is where a lot of our value is. I will root CC better than anyone else (thats a player skill mainly), i can AE snare and kite mobs on a bad overpull, i can rune tank in an emergency and with BW 200 im a good downtime healer. I can make a bad pull of 3+ mobs turn good by root CCing and dropping 1 or 2 mobs very quick. As a Wizard i never let mana get below 30-40 and usually try to keep it at 40-50 so i can burst DPS mobs down quick on a bad pull. Dont forget about Evac when youre deep in a dungeon too. Once i have my Epic and can use Manastone and/or Mannarobe i can sustain DPS with the best of them.

They thought being able to port to sky was enough to make them feel like they were contributing lol

Wizard is like a mage without a pet no? Still good but misses pet.

Yes; but don't only consider Damage Per Second. There is also value in burst damage, especially for getting rid of casters or adds. Also, wizards have multiple stuns and interrupts, which are good for preventing mobs from healing or casting other troublesome spells. And as others have stated, rune + flux staff + root is pretty good crowd control. I don't think anyone claims EverQuest's wizards are optimized for typical group play, but they are at least workable.

This is a funny argument. Wizards do burst damage. They have much more utility than a mage, but they don't have a pet.

They do wizardly things. If you have a wizard, a cleric, and 4 warriors in your group, you can probably handle most of the game.

But if you want to win in EQ you want to have a mage in your group so the pet can do all of the work.
