Jibartik I think is only familiar with the TV "left", ie CNN as a representation of the left. Or the pink-haired boogiewomyn. You can't talk politics with him or he'll get incredibly unhinged and insist you worship the CCP in a rage. I don't imagine this board is gr8 for his mentalhealth. That said he is a likeable fellow, just handle with care.

I think to blame is the milieux of the online gamer who only ever sees some right-wing hate videos (because they are so absurdly hateful and deranged that they are comical to link), derives his entire frame of reference from these and some TV and drunken uncles at Thanksgiving, and dismisses the left without ever having actually read anything real or earnestly contemplated anything to do with it. It is incredible how much political media you can watch without ever once hearing left economics discussed earnestly -- an entire simulacrum has been created where "leftism" is whining about how other poor people treat you. How it got so deep into his head that he has very uncomfortable looking spaz attacks when it's challenged is beyond my understanding, however I just want him to get better and feel better and more loving and open to new things and think he is one of the warmer hearts on the board.
