So amazon launched something called amazon sidewalk ( Without telling anyone )

Basically it turns every amazon echo dot or alexa thing into a wifi hotspot and everyone who has one shares wifi ( So if your wifi sucks and your neighbors is good you get a boost)

The best part is, they did it automatically without asking anyone if it was ok, and its pre enabled now with new device purchases.

They say its very secure, what do you think?
Xfinity has been doing this for a longtime with modems, have to go through some obscure bullshit to disable it which I have done everytime I move to ensure they aren't leasing out my bandwidth rent free for their own gain. Supposedly doesn't count against it but I don't buy it.

I am confused about what this does or how it works.

Like, if someone jogging passes by my house listening to spotify, he links into my ring door cam to remain connected to the internet as he passes by my house, linking up with my neighbors smart toaster, etc etc?

"Like Recognizes Like" is the simplest form of it. Oh this is a fellow amazon device(legitimate from their standpoint), user is signed in thru amazon and gets to handshake. Same idea with Xfinity, you could connect to Xfinity hotspots once u signed into ur comcast on your phone, walk by someones house who unassumingly has this feature enabled, and it recognizes ur login and lets you use this seperate wifi broadcasting off the router.

halfway through that sentence I was like, huh??

I dont get this stuff at all lol

So like, since not many people walk by my house, its not a big deal, but if some criminal wanted to do something they could drive around at night and do something with my internet?

Who actually owns/uses an Amazon voice controlled product?
Here in the greater Seattle area; you'd be surprised. Surprisingly though, none of my Amazon friends owns one. LMAO!
