More race-specific features should mean the playerbase deliberates longer at character select, possibly even favoring style/lore over the known min/max choices. Same with the more substantial class-specific features on here, like paladin-only soulfire. This is a good thing and still keeps in line with the spirit of EQ, borrowing slightly from the Firiona Vie server rules. Before ogres were stupefied, perhaps they would have had fancier names but not during this time period on Norrath.

It would be interesting to know whether or not illusions count, as that would offer a workaround for bards, rogues, and enchanters. The only issue with the surname restriction is, it hasn't been listed anywhere for new players to easily find.

I still think the 'elf race only' response you received was incorrect if that's what they truly said. I'm no authority, but I'm willing to bet they'd let you do it with an RP appropriate name, but not if you're just trying to slip by some truncated phrase or word they wouldn't allow if fully spelled out. This one read as 'the ghoul' to me so is borderline not-allowable IMO, but at least it looks more fantasy/RP.

Obviously ... this entire thread is about OP getting name policed by staff. The rest of us are just here discussing it since there was apparently a new rule implemented in 2021 that many of us that have been on the server a long time were unaware was implemented.

They were going to do that for my barbarian, so it's definitely not elves only. They probably want your surname to be thematic at least though
