Default 2015: State of the Server

Heres the list of Velious quests that need completed before they even come close to releasing velious.
Had a nice idea to complete all quest in 1-2 weeks. Community players like Thulack ,Colgate , Swish , Fatboy ,Argh (even drew you a graph of how he will take care of it)
Nothing good came of this so heres the quest an good luck getting it done.
Instead of completing these in 1-2 weeks. It will take Swish years. GL

There is so much misinformation and so many bad suggestions ITT I don't even know where to start.

I'll start with the entitled tone in which you've written this letter and :
They aren't allowed to make money on P99 or they will get shut down. (Im almost 100% certain your theory on crowd sourcing funds being exempt from the laws is way wrong)

I can tell you were never part of a major beta test, Certainly not on on Everquest but possibly ever.


:SPOILER- No one cares about red. And the 150 or so people who play there regularly can stay there as far as I (and most others) am/are concerned.

Personally, I'm happy with what we have. If Velious never launched, I'd still play here.

They think rallos was the preferred rule set... have fun dying slow.
TZ / VZ / SZ teams would explode your red server population. You are dumb to think otherwise.
Or make a new hardcoded teams PvP server an watch red die slowly.
What makes you think a teams server won't end up with 80% of people on one (successful) team?

Something to consider.

I wouldn't worry too much about people going to another server. These same threads happened with every single game that has come out after EQ did. "IS THIS THE EQ KILLER?" Yet, the game remains.

If/when velious drops here I'm betting the population will increase significantly.

so many ideas. you should make your own server. if your ideas are good folks will play on your server for all the more fun you offer.

what makes pvp teams so much fun is that it is not balanced, and the most successful guild would almost certainly be cross-team.

Well, there you have it folks. Condescension and arrogance wrapped up nicely into two succinct sentences. I don't quite follow this logic. Where are all these new red players going to come from? From blue? I mean look, I've already said my piece on PvP elsewhere, and while teams on PvP would be an interesting change it's not going to explode the server population. It might generate a small amount of new interest, if any at all, but it's hardly a silver-bullet solution to the drastically marginalized red population. GMs probably understand the sociology behind this better than most of us do. It's practically the same exact thing as it was on live, just scaled down. A small portion of players want the EQ PvP experience, and the vast majority don't. Teams PvP isn't going to change this.

There are some real problems with the raid scene at the moment, but this is definitely not an apt summary of any of them. The real issue has more to do with mobility between class R and class C than it does with the class system itself. The class system is great in theory, but less great - probably not even good - in practice. Currently we have at least three huge class R guilds that could easily hold their own against the lesser VP dragons, but class C has had such a stranglehold on the one bottleneck for VP keys that we probably won't see anyone else in there until sometime after Velious. And to be frankly honest, if I was in class C I would probably be trying to maintain that stranglehold just as fervently as anyone else. They don't want competition in VP until Velious is out. Neither would I.

No it isn't. The server is still in good hands, even if GM involvement in the foreshadow of Velious has dwindled slightly. To say Rogean not being in game is nothing new would be a huge understatement, and this provides exactly zero problems since there is already a perfectly capable staff taking care of the necessary stuff.

Agreed, but if I'm not mistaken new guide and GM applications have always been welcomed. I get the feeling no one is fit to fill the shiny new GM shoes at the moment. That Daldaen guy makes a huge amount of significant contributions in the testing department - "hire" him. Hell, put him on as a beta testing dev. Unless of course, you know, he doesn't want to.

The rest of your post just kind of blurred together around a few central points, which mostly struck me as non-issues and caricatured versions of how the GMs and development staff are probably approaching Velious beta testing. It kinda just sounds like you think the whole Velious content thing magically appeared out of nowhere, and now they're bestowing it upon the hapless denizens of the Project 1999 server to fix it until it works. Well, my good sir, that is not how it works. The people making this stuff possible have put in an incomprehensible amount of time and effort into getting things to where they are today, and your entire post smacks of underappreciation and a general misunderstanding of what they've done, how they've done it, and the quality of uncompensated work being put into it.

The Project 1999 developers know that game mechanics are more important than having 100% of all quest content verified. I can assure you that they don't need this pointed out to them. There is no expectation of us to test the content for them - this is a false contingency. No one forced you to test on the beta server when they took blue and red down for a brief amount of time. They thanked those who did, but they didn't reprimand anyone who didn't. I can guarantee you that the verification of easily testable quest content is not the biggest contributor to the delay of Velious' release. It helps if we test it, but I'm sure there are bigger issues that need to be worked out and that those are the real detractors to a timely Velious date.

And on that point, yes, by all means give some people GM abilities on the beta server to test this stuff.
