Because job opportunities are based on pedegree and not potential when you enter workforce. Its not like your likely to catch up if you start out behind..the situation just snowballs and you fall further and further behind until one day you finally get that 200K job at 50 working for some 30-year old rich kid's start up....until he fires you because you don't fit in with the "youth-based culture."
