Default How do I spend my points?

if I understand skill correctly, i get 5 points for every level i gain. Also if I have at least 1 point in a skill it will level as I use it.

So technically I only need a certain number of skills to get everything to 1, after that what do I spend the points on?

I dint want to use them to up existing skills just in case I was supposed to save them for something.

I generally use my points for swimming, upping weapon skills that fell behind early on, and to boost trade skills. Seriously swimming is horrible on this server for my non iksar toons.

Anyone know how much it would cost to go from 60 smithing to 200 with just points?

You cant put anymore than the first 20 or 21, after that point its all earned doing the tradeskill.

the skill point spending cap on tradeskills is 21.
Depending on the class, skill points can be pretty pointless, so you can safely spend them on tradeskills, weapon skills, alcohol tolerance or what have you.
However for some skills like Hide & Sneak, or Mend, or Bind Wound, it can be nice to actually get the skill up a bit with skill points so it's efficient fastet than slowly grinding your way to capping it.
As for swimming, just go AFK in a pond swiming in circle sometimes while you're cooking or toilet-break or something and that should cap it just fine [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

21 is the cap? Or the "free" cap after which skillups cost you a point + pp?

What class are you? If you're a caster, it's good to use them on research so that you don't fail combines so much. If you are a rogue it is good to put them into Apply Poison if you plan on doing poisons, or Disarm for all melee since that is a pain to skill up.

It's the cap then you have to raise the skill through making stuff.
